St. James UMC is the site of a HUB for UMCOR, United Methodist Committee on Relief. We collect supplies needed for cleaning buckets and hygiene kits, We assemble the kits or verify kits that were assembled elsewhere. The kits are transported to Mission Central, where they are distributed as needed. We conduct the hygiene kit drive annually during the month of April. We also have volunteers that sew pocket prayers – a nice reminder for people to know that our congregation is praying for them.
School Kits: UMCOR is no longer collecting school kits. If you would like to donate to a similar cause, the Nashua Soup Kitchen and Shelter holds an annual “Backpacks for Back to School” program. They collect new backpacks and school supplies for families trying to live on minimum wage, staying at the shelter. or coming to the soup kitchen for food. For a list of accepted items and more information, visit their website https://nsks.org or email carol@nsks.org.
As the humanitarian relief and development arm of the United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Committee on Relief assists United Methodists and churches to become involved globally in direct ministry to persons in need.
